Murrindindi Community Food Share - First Anniversary

Foundation Murrindindi hosted a celebration on 30 April to acknowledge the first anniversary of operation of the Murrindindi Community Food Share Program.

Food Share donors, supporters, volunteers and stakeholders were invited attend the event.

We also launched a new add on service – Food Share Fresh. Garden beds have been constructed in our newly landscaped outdoor area and will provide seasonal fresh produce to be shared at our Food Share events. We have currently planted lots of herbs and green leafy vegetables.

The Food Share program has grown steadily during it’s first year of operation. It is more than a meal. Food assistance not only addresses people’s immediate nutrition needs but also contributes to improvements in their health, emotional wellbeing, sense of self-worth, social relationships and ultimately overall standard of living.

Combined with the environmental savings of food not going to waste, the benefit to the individual and the broader community that flows from every kilogram of food distributed is valued at $23 (source: Foodbank Australia)

Below are some Food Share Facts from our first year or impact.

Foundation Murrindindi would like to acknowledge the significant contributions and support we have received in our first year of operation. From local businesses that donate goods, to individual community members and groups that added items at one of our donation collection points. To those who have made financial contributions and supported upgrades to our Food Share facilities through grants. And not forgetting our volunteers who generously give up their time to ensure shelves are stocked and attendees feel welcomed and supported at each Food Share event. Thank you. It truly takes a whole community to make this program happen.
