About 15 people attended the Marysville Community Centre last Wednesday for an information evening on the newly formed Marysville and triangle Community Foundation. The foundation which has been established by the Marysville and Triangle Community Association to continue the recovery process after the 2009 bushfires recently advertised for persons interested in becoming directors of the foundation.

The evening was conducted to provide further information to a number of people who had submitted expressions of interest. On hand to answer their questions were Alan Brown and Tony Thompson.

Mr Brown is a former leader of the Victorian Liberal Party and Minister for Transport. He was a founding chair and Director of the Bass Coast Community Foundation and the founding chair of Inner North Community Foundation. Mr Brown was also the chair of the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund Advisory Committee.

Mr Thompson is the Executive Officer of the MTCA.

Clive Clayton the chair of the MTCA said the foundation had been established with $1 million from the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund and to proceed it was necessary to appoint a number of further directors. People with professional qualifications such as accountancy and law were most welcome to apply. Interviews and appointments will be conducted by an independent panel.

“MTCA members have worked hard and diligently to establish the MTCF and are extremely pleased to have reached this point. The foundation will provide benefits to the wider Murrindindi Shire community. Choosing the best persons will benefit both the community and the foundation”, Mr Clayton said.
